What’s a Soulmate? – Lindsey Ouimet

Libby Carmichael has just met her Soulmate. It’s just too bad he’s behind bars.

When you only see the world in black and white until you meet yours, it’s pretty simple to figure out when you’ve found your Soulmate. What Libby can’t figure out is why fate/destiny/the powers-that-be have decided that Andrew McCormack is her one, true match. Libby is smart, organized, and always has a plan for what’s coming next. So when she sees Andrew for the first time and her world is instantly filled with color, she’s thrown for a loop.

Namely because he’s in a dingy grey jumpsuit.

And handcuffs.

And being booked into a juvenile detention facility.

Surely a boy who’s been convicted of a headline-making, violent crime isn’t the person she’s meant to be with. There’s no way she belongs with someone like that… Right? – Goodreads.com

I received a copy of this book free from the publisher via netgalley.com in exchange for an honest review.

What’s a soulmate has an awesome concept of meeting the person you are meant to be with bringing colour to your previously black and white world. This was the main pulling point for me when requesting this novel.

I enjoyed this novel for the most part but found a lot of the family history lacking and some of the plot a bit too convenient. I suppose there are only so many endings that you can pick from when it comes to writing for teens.

There was a fair bit of nitty gritty stuff in this novel though I don’t really feel as though it was dealt with realistically. An adult giving in to the opinion of a teenage girl who has no experience with their situation felt a bit far fetched.

Overall, great concept though not a novel I would personally re-read or recommend. Have you read it? Let me know what you thought and if you think I’m being too harsh.
