Each book entails a new take on an old fairy tale, including Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel and Snow White. The story takes place in a futuristic world where humans, cyborgs, and androids all coexist. – Goodreads.com
I started reading these books after hearing about them on various Booktube channels. Everyone was giving them rave reviews so I wanted to see if they lived up to the hype. Spoiler alert – they did.
Set on both Earth and the moon, The Lunar Chronicles is a fairy tale retelling including four princesses and their “princes”. I use the term princes loosely because some of the male characters aren’t quite who or what you would expect.
Each novel is based on a particular princess’s story and incorporates characters from the previous novels. There are incredible love stories, morally grey characters, personal growth, intergalactic wars, plagues, torture, humour and everything else you could ever want in a book.
Definitely a series I want to reread and would recommend to just about anyone, I found it as universally lovable as Harry Potter – it appeals to so many different audiences.
- Action. Lots of action.
- Well written, fast moving plot.
- Intriguing, strong and morally grey characters with constant character growth.
- Meyer tends to use the word “listing” a lot, as with any other author, once you find a term you like there’s a chance you will overuse it but other than that I cannot fault this series.
